Optronics is one of the emerging fields of physics and engineering. For the past many decades electronics has dominated the world of computing and networking. Optics found its way into the computer domain in the form of high-speed medium for networking. But sooner it was realized that the need for super fast computation was not satisfied unless the underlying hardware was efficient enough to do the computation at supersonic speed.
This led the researches to invent something better than electronics and the only option was Optronics. They have made preliminary gates as AND,OR, NOT etc of the laboratories. The main challenge in front of the scientists is regarding the stability of the materials used for the purpose. But once we step ahead these obstructions, it is clear than the human quest for supersonic computation will be satisfied.
