SECURITY & PRIVACY IN WIRELESS LAN
[attachment=216]

Introduction

This presentation will describe the need for wireless intrusion detection, provide an explanation of wireless intrusion detection systems.

WLANs should employ a security solution that includes an intrusion detection system(IDS). Even organizations without a WLAN are at risk of wireless threats and should consider an IDS solution

Intrusion Detection System(IDS).

Intrusion detection systems(IDSs) attempt to identify computer system and network intrusions and misuse by gathering and analyzing data.

An intrusion detection system is a software and (or) hardware based system that monitors network traffic and monitors for suspicious activity and alerts the system (or) network administrator.

In some cases the ids may also respond to anomalous (or) malicious traffic by taking action such as blocking the user (or) source ip address from accessing the network.

About WLAN

WLAN is a technique of designing and arrangement of different components in Wireless local area networking device in a specific way.

Special type of device which is the combination of transmitter and receiver called d as transceiver which is an essential part for standard Wireless LAN architecture that is known as Access points.

About Intrusion Detection Systems

An intrusion detection systems always has its core element - a sensor (an analysis engine) that is responsible for detecting intrusions.

This sensor contains decision-making mechanisms regarding intrusions. Sensors receive raw data from three major information sources

The sensor is integrated with the component responsible for data collection
