Bombardier, Air Products &Chemicals, Merck & Co are avoiding this. Process Management Umbrella ensures the company benefits by proper positioning of the various operations. Definition Process Management is a structured approach to performance improvement that centers on the disciplined design and careful execution of a company s end to end business process. First Steps Toward Process Management: Identify company processes, typically 5to 10. Make people through out the company aware of the processes and how their own work fits in. Assess current process performance & set targets. Designate process owners. Select 2-3 processes for redesign &improvement. Wrongly accused supplier Pharmaceutical company had low yields . They thought it was due to low quality raw material. Fact : it was due to temperature variation . HVAC improved the yield by 60% Inexperienced Forklift Operator Polymer manufacturer fielding customer complaints about product contamination hypothesized numerous causes. Six Sigma analyzes the root cause defect is holes at the bottom of boxes. Puncturing was caused by inexperienced forklift. Solution was to shorten the fork on the fork lift. Big Picture & Conclusion It provides a unifying theme for initiatives directed at improving organizational performance. Six Sigma beneath the process-management umbrella addresses challenges and allow a companies to reap its substantial benefits. Companies that rise to the challenge will garner extra ordinary rewards.
