power flows throughout the system

ABSTRACT

The power flows throughout the system are largely distributed as a function of transmission line impedance, a transmission line with low impedance enables large power flows through it than does a transmission line with high impedance. This is not always most desirable outcome because quite often it gives rise to a myriad of operational problems. The operating problems with unregulated active and reactive power flows may give rise are high transmission losses, voltage limit violations and in ability to utilize transmission line capability up to the thermal limit.
In the earlier days such problems are traditionally solved by building new power plants and transmission lines, this solution is costly to implement and that involves long construction times. A new solution to such operational problems will rely on the upgrading of exciting transmission networks by using the latest power electronic equipment and methods. A new technology at present days can be implemented by using FACTS Controllers.
Several kinds of FACTS controllers have been commissioned in various parts of the power systems. The most popular are: Static VAR compensators, TCSC, Static compensators and Unified power flow controllers. TCSC provides series compensation.
In this project the steady state mathematical model of TCSC has been developed. The power flow analysis considering an IEE-14 bus system has been analyzed. The power flow program for the IEE-14 bus system has been developed using Newton Rap son method in polar co-ordinate form. The same power flow program has been extended to TCSC model. Real-code Genetic Algorithm is used as the optimization tool to determine the location as well as the controlling parameter of TCSC with Single-TCSC and two-TCSC simultaneously. The Total Transfer Capability and fitness profile of single TCSC is more than without TCSC and two TCSC is more than single TCSC. The performance of the Real-code Genetic Algorithm has been used on IEE 14-Bus Reliability Test System. The carried work proved that the TCSC device to control of active power in the transmission line. Detailed numerical simulations have been obtained by using MATLAB.
