Oldham Coupling
Oldham Coupling has three discs, one connected to the input, one associated with the output, and the average drive that connects to the first two on a thorn and a Groove. tongue and Groove on one side, perpendicular to the tongue and Groove on the other. Middle disc rotates around its Center at the same speed as the input and output shafts. Its Center traces of circular orbit, twice per revolution, around
midpoint between input and output shafts. Often springs are used to reduce the backlash mechanism. the advantage of this type of connection, compared to the two universal joints, is its compactness. adapter named for John Oldham who invented it in Ireland, in 1820, to solve the problem with the placement of the paddle in the design catalog wheel steamer.
