Abstract
In The Present Technological Revolution Power Is Very Precious. So We Need To Find Out The Cause Of Power Loss And Improve The Power System. Most Of The Commercial And Industrial Installations In The Country Have Large Electrical Loads Which Are Severally Inductive In Nature, Such As Motor, Large Machines, Air Conditioners, Etc, Which Results In A Lagging Power Factor. This Means Loss And Wastage Of Energy And Heavy Penalties By Electricity Boards. So We Need To Improve The Power Factor With A Suitable Method. However In Case Of Rapidly Varying And Scattered Load It Becomes Difficult To Maintain A High Power Factor By Manually Switching On/off Capacitors In Proportion To Variation Of Load. This Drawback Is Overcome By Using On Apfc (automatic Power Factor Controller) Panel Which Not Only Maintains A High Power Factor But Also Eliminates The Need For Constant Manual Intervention. This Project Work Is An Attempt To Design And Implement The Apfc Panel Using Plc (programmable Logic Controller). Plc Monitors The Lagging And Leading Power Factor Of Different Loads Than Take Control Action. Plc Controls Capacitor Bank To Improve Power Factor. This Project Will Give More Reliable And User Friendly Apfc Panel. This Project Will Make Possible To Store The Real Time Action Taken By The Plc. While Using Plc Instead Of Dedicated Apfc Microcontroller, It Becomes Easy For An Operating Engineer To Understand And Maintain The Panel. Other Tasks Of Substation Automation Can Also Be Handled By The Same Plc.
