Standort Tracker
#1

[attachment=8319]

Objective :

The project can be used in any investigation related services or anywhere where knowing the whereabouts of a person becomes very important. Would you like to monitor your trucks / the marketing executive s movements? This Location based service could be used for such tracking systems. It sends the location string automatically and continuously to the server and the server in-turn reads the message through AT-Commands. Using that location strings we can also map the location visited by the user for a particular date.

Requirements :
Hardware Requirements :

DKU 5 Data cable to connect cell phone to PC
Cell Phone with PC connectivity option and built-in modem which supports
DKU 5
Smart phone with Symbian OS (Any 60 series cell phone)

Software Requirements :

Jdk1.5 or above
Symbian Operating System
Symbian emulator
JSMS engine
JSMSEngine API
JSMSEngine Server

PC Requirements :

PII Processor
40GB HDD
256MB RAM

Description :
With the world becoming ever smaller through technology, hiding is increasingly difficult. Cameras peer down on us at red lights, in our workplace, in stores and even at home. Now, those cameras are being augmented by new technologies that track our cars, cell phones and possibly any product we buy. Cell phones will be taking on a new role in 1998, beginning a slow transition to becoming user tracking devices. The outcome of this shift reassures some, but has others calling for restrictions on how cell-locating information can be used.
Our project helps where there exists a situation of emergency in which you are not in a position to explain where you are but need an emergency help. You need to transfer your location based details continuously to the police department without touching the cell phone and leading to any suspicious behavior. Just load out application to your cell phone and enter the phone number of the cell phone to which you would like to pass the location data. These locations will be plotted on a map and hence the client can be traced out more easily. Our application continuously reads your location and transfers your location info to the destination PC without expecting any button press. Sending of SMS is automatic. The project also gives an option to view the locations covered by any specific client on a given date.

Working :

Server-Side :

The server PC is connected to a cell phone with built-in modem via data cable.

Client-Side :

At the client end, you need a Symbian OS cell phone. Symbian C++ is the language used to develop the client side project. Once the project is tested with the emulator, .sis file is created and loaded to the smart phone. Once the application is started in the cell phone, give the phone number of the cell, which is connected to the server machine and let the application be in running state.

The client-side cell phone continuously reads the location string i.e. the tower that transmits signal to it and auto sends the same as SMS to the server side cell phone. The server PC uses AT-Commands to auto read the incoming message and plots on the map.

Advantages :
An affordable Technology with high end advantage
Can help tracking people in distress without much expectation from the other end
Helps the marketing people in moving their products to the market faster, and to monitor assets and prevent inventory loss.
Companies can track their employees
Locations visited by a particular user can be plotted on a map.
Mapping is done for a particular date.

Limitations :
Knowing the whereabouts at any time is intrusion into private life

Future Enhancements :

Auto start the application
Running the application is hidden mode
