CHAIN DRIVES IN LOW TORQUE DRIVES AND REDUCING PULSATIONS

INTRODUCTION TO DRIVES

Mechanical components used for power transmission. It may be belt, chain or gear depending on engine design parameters like - Distance between crankshaft and camshaft, engine maximum speed, engine-torque and engine construction cost. - Power transmission is done from one shaft to another shaft which may or may not rotate at same speed.

CHAIN DRIVES (catia aided)
The chain are mostly used to transmit motion and power from one shaft to another , when the distance between the centers of the shafts is short .The wheels have projecting teeth and fit into the corresponding recess ,in the links of the chain

Reasons for chain drive preference
Positive drive having no slip.
Takes less space than a belt or rope drive.
No initial tension required to set up.
Higher transmission efficiency. (98%)
Additional Operating Conditions
The chain operates in an indoor environment of 10 C to 60 C, and there is no abrasive dust.
no effects from corrosive gas or high humidity.
The two driving shafts are parallel with each other and adjusted properly.
Lubrication is applied.
The transmission is subject to only small fluctuations in load.
