Image Compression for Mobile Based Location Search Engine
#1

Abstract:
In today s era most of the application systems are in use in the area of Mobile Computing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geographical Positioning Systems (GPS). These are generally based on JAVA. Vector maps (e.g. road maps) are widely used in a variety of applications such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Mobile Computing. However, large size of vector maps is the one of the reasons which affects these systems. The problem of usage and application in these systems is because of the small storage availability with mobile devices or the limited bandwidth of the data transportation. In mobile devices, it is required to store large-scale dataset and complex data processing system in limited storage area. The main objective of the proposed storage system is to provide map images for real-time applications that use low memory and less computing resources. In this paper, we give overview of the system architecture that describes the map image compression technique, and discuss implementation aspects. Experimental results are given both in terms of compression and compression ratios.
