Shanzu Teachers Training College is located on a 45 hectare plot 16 Km North of Mombasa Island, along Mombasa/Malindi Road near Shimo-La-Tewa Prison, Shimo-La-Tewa Secondary School. and boarders Shimo-La-Tewa Primary School. The College resulted from the amalgamation of four smaller Teachers Training Colleges namely:

Coast Teachers College, Mombasa District
Bura, Taita Taveta District
Ribe, Kilifi District
Mutune, Kitui District
Shanzu Teachers Training College started operating with effect from May 1967, by training P1, P2 and P3 teachers. At the moment, the College is training P1 teachers and is also offering courses which include Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Human Resource Management, Diploma in Business Administration and Early Childhood Development amongst others.

The student population has grown from the initial 256 in 1967 when the College opened its doors for the 1st year (group) intake to the current enrolment of the 960 students of which 840 are teacher trainees and the rest take any of the other courses offered by the college.

Shanzu Teachers Training College is located along Mombasa-Malindi Road. The institution is composed of several departments, namely Education, Mathematics, Languages, Science, Creative Arts, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Learning Resource Center (LRC), Department of Teaching Practice, Guidance and Counseling and Department of Social Sciences.
