Representing Network Traffic

Abstract

Network traffic plays a crucial role in simulation. You can affect results and
conclusions drawn from a simulation by altering the way you represent traffic.
The OPNET products support a variety of traffic models and many ways in
which you can configure them. Traffic can be created manually by configuring
various application and traffic attributes. Traffic can also be imported from a live
network using traffic collection tools or ASCII data in a traffic file. This paper
describes the different traffic models and the various techniques that can be
used to incorporate traffic information. This paper also provides
recommendations on what traffic representations are best suited for different
studies.
