Mobile phone tracking is a technology that locates and tracks the position of a moving phone. A mobile phone is located using the signal that phone emits to communicate with nearby antenna towers.Proximity data about how far the phone is to antenna towers and, thus, a specific location is determined by studying the signal strengths. Signal strengths emitting from antenna towers are the main elements that are used to determine a phone's location. Mobile positioning location based service that discloses the actual coordinates of a mobile phone bearer.
Technology
The major methods depend on measuring power levels and antenna patterns. the sector in which the mobile phone resides can be roughly estimated by the Advanced systems and the distance to the base station as well. a precision of down to 50 meters can be achieved in urban areas.GSM localization is the use of multilateration .
The three classes of Localization-Based Systems are
-Handset based
-Network based
-Hybrid
Network Based
the service provider's network infrastructure is utilised by this technique. This can be impemented without affecting the handsets. Here, cell identification is the least accurate and triangulation is the most accurate. There is a need for the installation of hardware and software within the operator's infrastructure.
Handset Based
This requires the client software on the handset to determine its location. This technique determines the location of the handset by computing its location by cell identification, signal strengths of the home and neighboring cells. more precise location information can be retrieved if the handset is equipped with GPS. The botleneck here is that only Symbian, Windows Mobile , iPhone / iPhone OS, or Android, can run such applications. the installation of embedded hardware or software on the handset could be a workaround.
Hybrid
a combination of network-based and handset-based technologies is used here.
Examples of LBS technologies:
-Cell Identification
-U-TDOA - Uplink-Time difference of arrival
-Enhanced Cell Identification
-TOA - Time of arrival
-AOA - Angle of arriva
-Assisted-GPS
Operational purpose:
The signal strength is conatantly being monitored. As the phone changes location, the antenna towers monitor the signal and the phone is roamed to an adjacent tower as appropriate.
