Introduction
Level crossing in India can be divided into two categories.
Manned

Un-Manned
A manually operated level crossing in India
Manned crossing:-
>Manual level crossings are those which are guarded by a gatemen as employee of Railways.
>Due to vastness of Indian railways , that spans over 6,909 stations over a total route length of more than 63,327 kilometres , it is impossible to man all crossings.
>Besides element of human error is always involved.
Need for unmanned crossings
Better utilization of human resources.
Elimination of human error.
Accident risk at unmanned level is also solved.
