BIO-INFORMATICS ? DNA SEQUENCING & ANALYSIS
#1

Bioinformatics is the study of the inherent structure of biological information and biological systems. It brings together the avalanche of systematic biological data (e.g. genomes) with the analytic theory and practical tools of mathematics and computer science. The most pressing tasks in bioinformatics involve the analysis of sequence information and Computational Biology is the name given to this process. There are various schemes used for sequence alignment like Dot Matrix method, Global alignment, etc. Reusable components can greatly reduce the amount of redundant effort. There are various software available for performing all the above mentioned functions. The Wisconsin Package, Genetic Computer Group (GCG) program is an integrated package of over 130 programs used to analyze nucleic acid and protein sequences. The scope of this seminar is to discuss the various techniques, some of which have been mentioned above, involved in DNA sequencing and analysis.
