cracks in building
#1

Cracks in Buildings:
The appearance of Cracks in buildings are of common occurrence. whenever stresses in the component exceed its strength, a crack is developed in the building. The sources of this load can be the externally applied forces, such as dead, live, wind or seismic loads or the internally applies stresses due to thermal movements, moisture changes, chemical action etc. due to thermal movements, moisture changes, chemical action etc. due to thermal movements, moisture changes, chemical action etc. The consolodation of soil, its expansion and contraction, vibration, snow loading, overloading and impact are some of the most common causes of cracks in buildings.

Types of cracks:
The two broad classification of cracks include:
structural and non-structural cracks.
Structural cracks:These are caused due to incorrect design, faulty construction or overloading etc, and the safety of a building will be put at risk by these cracks. Extensive cracking of the RCC Beam is an example of structural cracking.

Non-structural cracks:These are caused mainly due to internally induced stresses in building materials. these cracks generally do not directly result in structural weakening.
