The word blog is formed by a contraction of the term "web log". A blog is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.Blogging means to maintain or add content to a blog.Entries are displayed in reverse-chronological order, mainly sorted according to month and year.

Types of blogs
1)Personal blogs:
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog.they become a way to reflect on life, or works of art. Some sites, such as Twitter, allow bloggers to share thoughts and feelings instantaneously with friends and family, and are much faster than emailing or writing.

2)Corporate and organizational blogs
Blogs used internally to enhance the communication and culture in a corporation or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs.

By genre:
they focus on a paricular subject like political blogs, travel blogs, fashion blogs, project blogs, education blogs, niche blogs, classical music blogs, quizzing blogs and legal blogs.

By device:
A blog written by a mobile device is called a moblog.

By media type:
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog or one comprising photos is called a photoblog. semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance.

Creation of blogs-Blog software
blog softwareis software designed to simplify the creation and maintenance of blogs. They maybe specialized content management systems, weblog applications support the authoring, editing, and publishing of blog posts and comments.

Server models:
Many weblog applications can be downloaded and installed on user systems. Some are free-software or open-source while Others are proprietary software. weblog applications are offered only through their developers' hosts

Clients:
a browser-based interface enables authors to create and update content on the site.Updating via external client using APIs such as the MetaWeblog API and the Atom Publishing Protocol is also available.

Post and comment management:
All the blogs contain the following features and can be edited:
* Title, the main title, or headline, of the post.
* Body, main content of the post.
* Permalink, the URL of the full, individual article.
* Post Date, date and time the post was published.

there are also Comments, Categories (or tags) and Trackback and or pingback

Other features
various linking and web syndication features are made available.RSS or Atom provide Web syndication.Post moderation requires users to register before commenting,or approval by a moderator.Most types of blogware support adding thumbnail images within blog posts.
