[attachment=16338]

What is IP(Internet protocol)?

A protocol is an agreement between the communicating parties on how communication is to proceed.

The glue that holds the whole Internet together is the network layer protocol,(Internet protocol).

What is IP Version-4.0?

IPv4 has proven to be robust, easily implemented and interoperable, and has stood the test of scaling an internet work to a global utility the size of today's Internet.

The initial design did not anticipate the following :-
The recent exponential growth of the Internet and the impending exhaustion of the IPv4 address space.

Features of IP Version-6.0

New header format

Large address space

Efficient and hierarchical addressing and routing infrastructure

Stateless and stateful address configuration

Built-in security

Better support for QoS

New protocol for neighboring node interaction

Extensibility

Advantages

Same field as in IPV-4 but with different version numbers.

Internet header length Removed in IPv6.

Type of service replaced by the IPv6 Traffic Class field.

Type of service replaced by the IPv6 Payload Length field, which only
indicates the size of the payload.

Identification removed in IPv6.

MLD (the replacement for IGMP for IPv4)

Time to Live Replaced by the IPv6 Hop Limit field.

In IPv6, bit-level error detection for the entire IPv6 packet is performed by the page link layer.
