quad-core technology
It is a type of multi-core technology that includes two separate dual-core dies installed together in one CPU package.Dual core means a CPU that includes two complete execution cores per physical processor. a memory cache is shared between cores 1&2 and cores 3&4. If core 1 or 2 needs to communicate with 3 or 4, it is an external communication, usually established via the FSB(frontside bus).Intel and AMD have introduced quad-core processors. The quad core technology provides energy efficient performance, enabled by advanced parallel processing and hafnium-based 45nm technology. The second generation of Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors was launched on November 12th 2007. The quad cores in a single physical processor delivering full parallel execution of multiple software threads, Intel multi-core technology enables higher levels of performance while each core runs at a lower frequency, dividing the power typically required by a higher frequency single core processor with equivalent performance. Intel is developing another technology 32nm multi-core processors technology.By this future architectures can hold dozens or even hundreds of processors on a single die. The intel scientists foresee a future where the processor speeds range in the tera scale. All this is possible with the quad core technology and its successor- the multicore technology.
