Remote Device Control Using Speech recognition

Looking at today's scenario throughout the world we get to see how fast paced our life has become and time is the most valuable thing. Communication media have played an important role in bringing the world closer. This system deals with the control of home appliances at the vicinity of personal computer. For this we are using one of the most widely available technologies namely RS-232 communication cable and micro controllers. In our project, sending a control word from a personal computer can control a machine or appliance. It is done by clicking on the control screen page of computer to switch ON or OFF any appliance. In this project we require to send speech command to the computer, computer is responsible for recognition of that word means conversion of that speech into word. On the basis of recognized word it will send ON/OFF command to microcontroller where respective device will be either ON or OFF. In our project we can control eight devices at a time.

Spoken interaction has the potential to provide a natural and very flexible way to talk to devices. Speech technology is becoming increasingly important in both personal and enterprise computing as it is used to improve existing user interfaces and to support new means of human interaction with computers. Speech technology allows hands-free use of computers and supports access to computing capabilities away from the desk. Speech recognition and speech synthesis can improve computer accessibility for users with disabilities and can reduce the risk of repetitive strain injury and other problems caused by current interfaces. Speech technology is being integrated into a range of small-scale and embedded computing devices to enhance their usability and reduce their size. Most of features of speech technology has been used to control devices. Devices may be Remote devices, Complex devices and multiple devices. Remote device control includes controlling the home by phone, microphone from outside or controlling devices in other rooms. Voice allows hands-free control. This is vital for people who find keyboards difficult or impossible to use, but also useful to anyone who wants to control their music, telephone etc., while doing other tasks, whether this be ironing, cooking or having a shower.
