THE MBONE AND MULTICASTING
#1

A Multicasting is technical term that means you can send piece of data (a packet) to multiple at same time other than traditional unicast service. Multicast makes many to many communication possible thus provides a solution for the problem of delivery real-time multimedia applications that mean huge volumes of traffic on the Internet

MBONE, multicast backbone, is a virtual network layered on top of the Internet consisting of routers and hosts that support IP multicast. MBone is the result of Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) developed technology. MBONE can provides one-to-many and many-to-many network delivery services for applications such as video conferencing and audio that need to communicate with several other hosts simultaneously.

In order to use network resources (such as bandwidth) more efficiently, we proposed a prototype incorporating the users' profiles, stream content, proxy location and network information, which requires the efficient representation of multimedia content. In this talk, an introduction of multicast and MBONE is included; then semantic multicast prototype and media processing and annotation are discussed. It also includes MBONE applications and protocols are discussed..
