Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT) is the pioneer aviation institution in Malaysia and it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). Also we are the first Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO) approved by the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA) to offer aircraft maintenance technology programmes .

Initially established as part of MARA Vocational Training with Northrop-Rice U.S.A as the technology provider; it was previously located in Malacca known as MARA-Northrop Rice Institute (MNRI) and was located in Malacca. With the expansion of the programmes and increased student enrollment, MNRI became known as Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology Sdn. Bhd. (MIAT). MIAT took another step further in its bid to be part of Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and hereon known as Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (UniKL MIAT).

The first of its kind in Malaysia, UniKL MIAT is responsible in imparting ab-initio training to students in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering where the university is qualified to offer European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License training program in collaboration with the German strategic alliance company. UniKL MIAT had been selected to be the recipient of the prestigious Asia Pacific Aerospace & Defense Awards in Aviation Training: Aviation Workforce Development Organization Category for the year 2008 by Frost and Sullivan. UniKL MIAT aims to become the premier Center of Excellence for aviation training institution specializing in Aircraft Maintenance Technology in order to meet the current and future global demand.
