INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDY

Learning

Learning is the lifelong process of transforming information and experience into knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes
This definition really resonated with me because it is this sort of perspective that informs the work we do here at Tagore s and why we feel that learning can be such an integral part of meaningful engagement with members and customers. Learning truly does point to who we are and what we aspire to become.

Development

Development is mainly considered for the executives or the management. So the concept is elaborated and described as under executive or management development.
Learning and development advances the productivity of an organization s employees by providing focused coursework and development on areas of improvement necessary to keep a business in line with its performance plan. This also provides a basis for measurement for success of learning and development programs. In the performance plan, metrics are targeted that need growth and the institution of learning and development seeks raise those metrics to a target range or higher.

Training Needs Assessment

Training efforts must aim at meeting the requirements of the organization (long term) and individual employees (short term). This involves finding answers to questions such as: whether training is needed? If yes, where it is needed? Which training is needed? Etc. Once we identify training gaps within the organization, it becomes easy to design an appropriate training program. Training needs can be identified through the following types of analysis.

Leading Companies: Mind share and Market share

In terms of technology leadership, the software industry has long been led by IBM. However, Microsoft became the dominant PC operating system supplier. Other companies
5 P a g e
that have substantial mindshare (not: market share) in the software industry are SUN Microsystems, the developer of the Java platform (purchased by Oracle in 2009), Red Hat, for its open source momentum, and Google for its Google Docs. However in terms of revenues coming from software sales, the software industry is clearly dominated by Microsoft, since inception. Microsoft products are still sold in largest number across the globe.
