Embedded based room control system

Hello,
I, Priyesh Jain, want to make a project on room control by any embedded system.
I have a full knowledge of 8051 MC and somewhat about ARM 7(LPC 2148) but dont know the initialization and coding of ARM.
Please guide me about various components used in the particular project and some what about the delays and coding initializations of various components used in the project.

do you mean controlling of home appliances using micro controller or just control of room temperature ?
please explain what do you expect from "room control" ?
