automatic railway crossing system using plc
#1

Abstract

When it comes to public safety and personal safety, it is always desirable to improve upon the way people are warned about potentially dangerous situations and also we require 100 percent perfection in warning method. To date there does not appear to be any rail road collision avoidance system that can effectively warn a person when train is on its track. The conventional railway accident avoiding system uses warning lights and human controlled gates to alert a motorist that there is an oncoming train. The most of the rail road crossings are passive rail road crossings which are particularly dangerous since they have no warning lights or gates to warn a motorist that a train is approaching toward the rail road crossing. This project is fully automated using PLC and SCADA based sensor operated. Sensors are placed at track and when it senses train passing on track it give input to PLC and PLC is programmed in such a way that when sensor gives input to plc it starts a buzzer and after sometime it close the road gate that no one can pass until train crosses the second sensor. Second sensor is placed after road crossing. When this sensor senses that train is passed then it gives input to plc which opens the road gate for motorist. Same process will happen when train comes from other side.
