Abstract
This paper reports the conceptual design of a Peak Load Reduction (PLR) Device meant to cycle on/off air conditioners, swimming pool pumps, water heaters and compressors. It presents the impact of the proliferation of such devices on the local marginal cost of electric energy and the effect on indoor temperature. Finally the result of a survey of a sample of homeowners, questioned to determine their reaction to the installation of PLR Devices, is summarized.
