Seminar on Attribute Editor

[attachment=877]
Attribute Editor

Attribute Editor is one of the most frequently used windows in Maya 2008.Similar to the Channel Box, the Attribute Editor also displays attributes of an object. However, unlike the Channel Box that provides access to some of the important attributes of the object, the Attribute Editor provides access to all the attributes of the object.
Note that Attribute Editor does not appear when you start Maya 2008.You need to click the Show or hide the Attribute Editor icon. This icon is the first in the last group of the Status Line. The Attribute Editor appears in place of the Layer Editor panel. Note that similar to the Channel Box, the Attribute Editor displays the attributes of an object only when you have selected the object. (Figure. Maya-1.44)

Outliner

Earlier in the chapter, you learned how the Layer Editor aids you in managing and organizing the scenes. In Maya 2008, you can manage the scenes using the Outliner too. The Outliner (Fig.Maya-1.45) is a window that displays all the objects that exist in the scene. It displays a li8st or outline of the objects in the order of their creation in the scene. The object created first appears at the top of the list and the object created last appears at the bottom of the list. You can view the Outliner by selecting Window --> Outliner from the Main Menu bar. (Fig.Maya-1.45)

HOTBOX AND MARKING MENUS

Maya's Hotbox is a utility to get quickly to the menus that are available in the menu bar. It pops up when you press and hold spacebar. Once you customize the Hotbox, it provides quick access to the menus you use, hiding menus that are irrelevant to your work. It has five zones with special options. Five zones are North, South, East, West and center.
To see the entire Hotbox, click in the Hotbox Controls section on the right-hand side of the window, and drag your cursor over the Show All option. You might want to come back to this same Hotbox option and disable the Cloth and Live menus if you won't be using them.
Hotbox:
To access the Hotbox click in any view and hold down the Space Bar on the keyboard (Figure 43). This now displays the menus which currently exist at the top of the standard Maya interface. By clicking on each menu name the standard drop down menu will appear.
