ON LINE CONDITIONING AND MONITORING OF CUTTING TOOLS

In the recent years the manufacturing environment has undergone dramatic change. Because of the market pressure the trend is for saving cost of production. i.e. to produce more items of good quality in less time. For achieving this goal great consideration is given to CNC machining. Further it is a costly affair when product is not made to the quality specifications because of wear/tear or breakage of the tool. Unfortunately this happens without the machine operator suspecting anything until it abruptly does. The cost associated with downgrade of quality & downtime due to wear & breakage may at first seem negligible, but express this hundreds or even thousands of times over, the accumulating cost of production is high & yield is low. In the process towards unmanned machining .We need to develop reliable system that monitors the condition the tool i.e. tool wear, toolchater etc. Many researches have given models for sensing & failure analysis techniques. This seminar provides a review of the various techniques for Condition Monitoring of turning tools.
