Network-Monitoring using SNMP
The SNMP is used for the Management-Network protocol. It can be combined with the network monitoring tool ntop. Disturbances develop in the networks due to the Errors in hardware-, software- or con guration, Unauthorized or unforeseen overwhelming usage, or Bad design and bad scalability. This can be prevented by using continuous monitoring. SNMP is the standard for the networking devices and is a platform independent and open specification. Your own independent protocol can be built for your PC but it brings you more stress in terms of licensing, interfaces, security etc.
Basically, the SNMP is a Message-orientated networking protocol for managing distributed resources. The SNMP manager and the SNMP agent exchanges the data such as get-request, get-response, get-next-request, get-response, set-request, get-request, trap etc. In the SNMP Management Information Bases, the Describe SNMP-Variables, using SMI-syntax. It is hierarchially structured and can be represented by using the numerical or alphanumerical representations.
