Substation Monitoring System - Electrical Transmission And Distribution Process
#1

Abstract
A substation intelligence monitoring system co ntains a substation computer which is connected to a numger of field devices through an input/output subsystem . Data indicative of the devices is stored in a substation database . Advanced monitoring and diagnostics use information from this database to perform various monitoring and diagnostic functions.

Description
Optimizing the maintenance, repair, and replacement of transformers, circuit breakers, IEDs, substation batteries and battery chargers, capacitor banks, and underground cables etc in substations is challenging.
protection methods:use of microprocessor based data gathering, control and protective relays
referred to as intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), they allow the configurable protection of assets. The protective relays are commonly used to protect the assets from situations beyond the design limits of the asset which may lead to damage of the asset due to a fault. In addition to this, the protective relays can be used to control power system equipment such as to locally or remotely trip or close circuit breakers, operate capacitor banks, change tap positions on tap changers etc. IED also provide output indications. The various assets and related monitoring equipment generates large volumes operational and non-operational data including analytical data equipment condition information
Use of substation automation (SA) systems
these systems serve as a collection point for information from the various IEDs, monitors, and other equipment associated with a substation. This information, can be useful in understanding the operating status and history of the various equipment associated with the substation.
