South Africa has some of the highest internet fees in the world so we are constantly looking for ways to reduce costs. The best way to do this is to look for free bandwidth! Here are a 4 companies that wants you to get free internet in South Africa. Updated: 16 April 2016

To make use of the ADSL free internet in South Africa options you need:

Telkom Land Line
You can get this for R189 per month.
DSL Enabled Telkom Line
You need a post paid telephone line with ADSL activated (Axxess can do this for you at no extra cost).
Modem
You need a modem which you can buy at most computer stores (and the know-how to change settings).

Afrihost is giving away 1GB of ADSL Bandwidth per month to every South African.

All you need is:

ADSL Items listed at the start of this post
Photo ID
You ll need to send them a copy of your South African ID (for RICA The Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication related Information Act).
The sign-up process is explained step-by-step and even has a video that goes into detail about what exactly ADSL is for the technophobes and old school peeps.

This is a bold move from Afrihost and deserves praise. Many ISP s (Internet Service Provider) and even companies from different industries can take something out of this and help ease the country in this time of economic turmoil!

Everything is going up, petrol, food, electricy, etc. , but here they re offering you free internet! The only thing stopping you now is a Telkom line which is easy to get now that they ve improved there customer service. There are many ways to get free installation of your Telkom landline, but that is a topic for another blog post.

There is no catch, but they do say they reserve the right to take the offer away at anytime and if you do find yourself running out of data you have many ways to buy more, even through SMS!

Vodacom Group Limited (Vodacom) is an African mobile communications company, providing voice, messaging, data and converged services to over 55 million customers. From its roots in South Africa, Vodacom has grown its operations to include networks in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, and Lesotho and provides business services to customers in over 40 African countries such as Nigeria, Zambia, Angola, Kenya, Ghana, C te d'Ivoire, and Cameroon. It was owned on a 50:50 basis by the South African telecommunications group Telkom and the British mobile phone operator Vodafone. On 6 November 2008 Vodafone announced that it had agreed to increase its stake to 65%, and Telkom said that it would spin off its remaining holding by listing it on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. On April 1, 2011, Vodacom officially unveiled its new change in branding from blue to red, using the same style as its parent company, Vodafone.

Vodacom provides coverage to Mount Kilimanjaro, which used to make it the highest point in the world to be covered by GSM. It no longer is, as TeliaSonera now provides coverage at the top of Mount Everest, the highest point in the world. Vodacom was aided by its optimistic advertisements at the early stages of the democratic South Africa, this includes the yebo gogo campaign which is still in effect today in South Africa. Vodacom is the leading cellular network in South Africa with an estimated market share of 58% and more than 23 million customers.

There will be 300MB per month of free browsing available to users on their first connection and thereafter 250MB monthly. A specialised content portal has been devised which allows unlimited browsing of government websites, as well as a digital literacy course.

Users can top up their data if it runs out and can purchase bundles for as little as R5 for 700MB, 2G for R15 and 7G for R45. The extra data will only expire in 2024. Read more

I have used the 1st three services before and they provide good service. The last one I haven t had a chance to try, but if you have please let me know!If you know of any other places where you can get free internet feel free to tell us via the comment section.
