An Intelligent Network Backup Tool is to develop an automatic programmed back up tool to store the files automatically in to the server space when any insertion of the external devices used such as floppy drive, USB pen drive, CD ROM or in Hard disk and this complete project is for my supervisor.
This project is to run the automatic back tool installed on all PC s for all the users using their external drives in to system to transfer the data to view but there are some possible chances of losing the data by forgetting CD s or USB drive or in hard drive but unable to access remotely when require as it won t be available in the server.
I would like to develop this project under the supervision where my courses modules can be utilised and my course modules are Advanced Networking, Network Security, Network Management and Operating system.
Objective:
I would like to develop a tool, which can act as monitoring tool installed in each Pc s and look for any external drive inserts and copy all the data from the any external inserted and store in the server directly without the user notification.
This software is capable of using from lower configuration of Pc s connected to the server to the higher configuration.
o evaluate the back up tool the following requirements are as: Require normal pc configuration with operating system (Windows XP, windows 2000, any advance windows operating system from the above.
Require I/O external devices existed like Floppy drive, CD ROM or USB connectivity
Require one server with server operating system installed with server software such as windows NT or Windows 2000 server or windows 2003 business server
Require all client pc s to be connected to the server with cat 5e cable or cat6 cable.
In order to develop this tool we need TURBO C or Borland C or Net Beans installed in one of the pcs
The total task to design the tools, test and implement with the entire requirement will take normally 3-4months.
Manual testing tools will be used to test the backup tools to check.
Main Points In The Project:
Note:
When we start the project it needs to display one page with the entire network file servers in that network or shared document.
After selecting the file server whenever we open the file (Except System files) it need to copy or modify the file to that file server on that user depending on from where he open the file.(like CD,USB Stick, Hard disk and Internet).
Ex: If we open one file from USB Stick it needs to store in the below path:
File server/user name/USB Stick/File name
The Administrator should have an access - what going on at the background.
This project should work for both windows and Linux platforms.
