eye-movement control in reading:
The E-Z Reader model provides a theoretical framework for understanding how word identification, visual processing, attention, and oculomotor control jointly determine when and where the eyes move during reading.

Introduction:
As the eyes move across the printed page, the visual features of the
text are converted into orthographic and phonological patterns,
which are then used to guide further language processing
so that the content of the text can be understood.

Eye movements in reading
Saccades and fixations:
the eyes do not
move smoothly across the printed page during reading. Instead,
they make short and rapid movements, called the
saccades in which about 6 9 character spaces are moved. Between
saccades, the eyes remain stationary for brief periods of
time which are called fixations.

Visual acuity:
there are severe limits to how much visual
information can be processed during a fixation. That is why eyes move constantly during reading. As a result, the visual features that make up individual
letters can be encoded only from a very narrow window
of vision.

Saccade latency:
the processes identifying words
and the need to plan a saccade early enough in a fixation are in a virtual race, so
that reading can carry on at about 300 words per minute.It is thus not immediately obvious how
the identification of one word can be the signal to begin
planning a saccade to the next.

The acquisition of information during reading:
During saccades, vision is suppressed so that the information
needed for reading is acquired only during fixations. Also, reading proceeds quite smoothly if text is available
for processing for only the first 50 60 msec of a fixation.

Overview of the E-Z Reader model
The E-Z model makes the assumption that ongoing cognitive (i.e., linguistic) processing influences eye movements during reading.it does not account for the many effects
of higher-level linguistic processing on eye movements . The higher-order processes intervene in eyemovement
control only when something is wrong and either
send a signal to stop moving forward or a signal to execute
a regression.

i am 2nd year engg. student and have to give a seminar on "eye reader " thus a require information on this topic
