ppt on cryogenic heat treatment process
#1

A cryogenic treatment is the process of treating workpieces at cryogenic temperatures (ie below -190 C) in order to eliminate residual stresses and improve the wear resistance of steels. In addition to seeking improved stress relief and stabilization or wear resistance, cryogenic treatment is also sought for its ability to improve corrosion resistance by precipitating micro-fine eta carbures, which can be measured before and after in one part using a quantimet.
The process has a wide range of applications from industrial tools to improving the transmission of musical signals. Some of the benefits of cryogenic treatment include longer lifetimes, fewer cracking failures, improved thermal properties, better electrical properties, including lower electrical resistance, lower coefficient of friction, less drag and walking, improved flatness and more machining. Easy

Benefits

Increases abrasion resistance
Improves the microstructure of the metal, not just the surface
Subsequently, the parts can be rewound or machined without affecting the results of the cryogenic process.
Reduces residual stresses, while increasing toughness and dimensional stability
Improves impact resistance
