Greenbelts have tremendous potential for reducing air pollution and noise pollution, improving micrometeorology, and providing avenues for Wastewater disposal. But these gains, and more, can be achieved only if the greenbelts are designed scientifically, taking into consideration the air shed, the air quality, the terrain, the agro climatology, and the aesthetics. In this paper the approaches which would lead to rational and effective design of greenbelts has been described.
