Plastic Welding
#1

Plastics are considered to be building blocks of technology related structures of modern era. The development of polyvinylchloride, made in Germany, triggered extensive research and development in plastic fabrication work. Critical storages of alloying elements of corrosion resistance steel as well as other technological applications stimulated the use of plastic structures during the Second World War. In plastic welding smaller components are welded together to form complex structures. These structures include installation of process lines vent pipes, containers etc.. Enhanced application of plastics to more and more construction works demanded better fabrication techniques. Conventional methods were castings and die-casting of plastics. But cost of moulds, dies and other accessories for these types of fabrication showed a proportional increase with the size of structure being made. In fact the construction methods started to overshoot the material cost.
Plastic welding technology pervade into all structures in manufacturing fields. So the awareness about the subject is necessary for modern day engineer. For making intricate shapes, it became important to join the different pieces of plastic materials together. Welding and fabrication of plastic is relatively easy. In this seminar various techniques used for welding of plastics, their advantages and disadvantages are being discussed. .
