ADAPTIVE CONTROLLER FOR DC MOTOR DRIVES: A HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE APPROACH

Abstract:

The most commonly used controller for the speed control of dc motor drives is (P-I) controller. In spite of the major features of the (P-I) controller, it has some disadvantages such as: the high starting overshoot in speed, the sensitivity to controller gains and the sluggish response due to sudden change in load torque disturbance. Thus, the relatively new integral-proportional (I-P) controller is proposed to solve the disadvantages of the (P-I) controller. Simulation results due to step and impulse response in S-domain and Z-domain are presented for both controllers. Moreover. (I-P) and fuzzy controllers performance are compared. Using computer (80286) as a main controller, these two controllers are compared. Experimental studies are discussed in detail. The experimental results obtained give us good idea about the two controllers, and suggest that (I-P) controller can replace the (P-I) controller for the speed control of dc motor drives.
