solar air compressor ppt

Abstract

We use solar energy in many ways. All day, we use sunlight to see what we re doing and where we re going. Solar energy is free and clean. There is enough for everyone, and we will never run out of it. Solar energy is renewable. The sun will keep making energy for millions of years. Why don t we use the sun for all our energy needs? We don t know how to yet. The hard part is capturing the sunlight. It shines all over the earth and only a little bit reaches any one place. On a cloudy day, most of the light never reaches the ground at all.Air compressors, sometimes referred to as gas compressors, are devices or tools that reduce the volume of a gas thus creating pressure and heat in the gas being compressed. The most common application of this technology is the common or garden air compressor that you might have at home for inflating tires or using with a spray painting toolThe basic set up of a solar power air compressor is a number of solar panels that are made up of photo-voltaic cells. The cells create direct current electricity through the reaction of photons with silicon dioxide. This direct current is used to power a motor that works the compressor unit. It can also be used to charge a battery bank (Lead acid battery) that can be used as a backup when the sun is not shining or at night.

Technical details of the Projects

(a) Origin of the Proposal: -We often deal with unavailability of electrical power at rural area every time. Due to this reason we are encouraged to developed solar based air compressor which is based on solar energy and portable in nature and can prove to be very helpful for remote areas and for rural areas applications.

(b) Definition of the problem: - The irregular or unavailability of electrical power supply at remote area or rural area are the main problems arises in the use of traditional electrical type of air compressors which can be eliminated by using solar power air compressor also solar power air compressor is portable in nature.

© Objectives: -The objectives of the project are to develop a solar based air portable compressor which is useful for rural and remote area applications.

(d) Work Plan:-Stage 1:-Study of solar photo-voltaic cells and generation of electrical energy from it and how to use it for operating the air compressor pump.Stage 2:-Experimental setup.Stage 3:-Performing different experiments and its Validation with theoretical knowledge.

(e) Methodology: - This project consists of solar photo-voltaic cells which generate electrical energy from sun rays and this energy can be store in battery bank, for this purpose we will use charge regulator which provides regulated electrical output from solar cells. Regulated output of Solar cell is connected to rechargeable battery through a unidirectional current flow circuitry. This particular charged battery output given as input to the air compressor motor, this motor will controlled by the user manually using control buttons.

(f)Proposed outcome/ findings: - The project provides scope for learning the harvesting of solar energy for using it to operate air compressor.

(g) Details of Tools and Components needed:-Solar cells, solar charge controller for battery Charging,12 V batteries, Multi-meter , CRO

(h) Estimated Total Cost of project: Rs 13,000/-1) solar cell:- Rs.6000/-2) Battery charger with Battery:- Rs.4000/-3) Electronics Components like resistors, diode,LED ,wires etc.:-Rs 1500/-4)Other Cost:- Rs. 1500/-

(i) Utilization of the outcome of project: - Solar power has become one of the most popular alternative energy sources. Free and available everywhere, the power of the sun can be employed to power everything like cell phones and motors.

Thus this solar based air compressor can be utilized for the remote area where electricity is not easily available. This type of low-cost compressors can also provide employment opportunity for the people of rural area by helping them to setup their business like inflated tire repairing or puncher repairing shops near the highways. This type of setup is also a portable in nature and can easily be move from one place to another Thus this project can provide away of rural employment in a clean and green manner.

Introduction

Solar energy is renewable source of energy which can be used for many applications like power generation, water heating & cooking etc. The hard part is capturing the sunlight. It shines all over the earth. Air compressors, sometimes referred to as gas compressors, are devices or tools that reduce the volume of a gas thus creating pressure and heat in the gas being compressed. The most common application of this technology is the common or garden air compressor that you might have at home for inflating tyres or using with a spray painting tool. The basic set up of a solar power air compressor is a number of solar panels that are made up of photovoltaic cells. The cells create direct current electricity through the reaction of photons with silicon dioxide. This direct current is used to power a motor that works the compressor unit. In the present work solar photo voltaic is used to generate the power to run the air compressor used for inflating tyres.
