SELECTED APPLICATIONS OF LPLE IN SPEECH PROCESSING
#1

This article describes about Linear Prediction with Low-frequency Emphasis(LPLE), an all-pole modeling technique which emphasizes the lower frequency range of the input signal. It is a modified conventional LP analysis to improve modeling of the main spectral features of speech on the frequency range were the two lowest formants are located, with small prediction orders. This method analyses successive prediction orders with parallel structures using the concept of symmetric linear prediction.LPLE method is well-suited for those speech processing and enhancement applications, where low-order all-pole models with improved modeling of the lowest formants are needed.LPLE block is used instead of an LP blockand as a result, distortion measures using Itakura distance and noise cancellation using a Wiener type filter were explored.Linear Prediction Coding (LPC) is among the most widely used methods of speech processing. The most popular method for linear prediction is the classical autocorrelation method, which yields stable all-pole models for speech spectra.Human hearing resolution decreases towards higher frequencies.Since all frequencies are not treated equally by the human hearing, scientists worked to improve the conventional LP analysis. The major drawback of this method is the consideration of all frequencies equally.Hence,LPLE has proven its capability.
