A Flexible GPS-Based System for Synchronized Phasor Measurement in Electric Distribu
#1

Abstract
Large-scale distributed measurement systems are the object of several applications and research. In this article, attempts are made for developing measurement techniques that are suited to the continuous monitoring of the electrical quantities in distribution networks by using Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers. The quantities are measured in terms of synchronized phasors. general-purpose acquisition hardware and processing software is used here and as a result, the system can be easily easily reconfigured and reprogrammed according to the specific requirements of the particular application.
The liberalization of the energy market and the increasing diffusion of distributed generation plants has brought about a lot of significant changes in the electric distribution systems. The the control of the loads and the new integrated systems for the optimal dispatching of the electric energy from renewable sources are studied widely for the purpose of developing automatic systems which will optimize the energy production and distribution.
The distributed supply sources modifies the local structures of networks and as a result, the protection schemes must be reconsidered.

SYNCHRONIZED PHASORS

The standard IEE defintion of it is:
a phasor calculated from data samples using a standard time signal as
the reference for the measurement".

MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

The general-purpose data acquisition (DAQ) boards are used as the task of reprogramming and reconfiguring the whole system for the specific application becomes very much easier with it.
