Automation Of Dental Unit

INTRODUCTION OF PROJECT

The basic objective of this project regarding COMPUTERIZATION OF A DENTAL CLINIC is to eliminate the use of conventional methods of storing records (Viz. on papers, files) which are obviously time consuming, cumbersome and also require more storage.
Thus, computerization should allow quick storage of records and quicker completion of other formalities as well.
It would also lead to easier access the records and easier calculation of bill etc. previous information would be more readily available and would allow easier follow up by the clinic authorities.
Thus in end it can be said that emphasis would be up on quicker and easier storage, Manipulation and retrieval of clinic data.

MODULES OF THE PROJECT

Services Management This module will take care of services provided by the clinic. Rate of services is charged by rules of clinic. It will consider panel, Emergency charges, Age of patient and other parameters while calculating the rate of services for a particular patient.
Patient Management Every patient treated in clinic will be given unique Patient ID which is useful in tracking visits of patients. All patients data is useful for MRD purposes.
Consultant Management Tracking of consultant share for OPD. Option for defining consultant shared based on procedures/department.

Operational feasibility:

People are inherently resistant to change and computer has been known to facilitate change. An estimate should be made of how strong a reaction the user staff is likely to have toward the development of a computerized system. It is common knowledge that computer installation has something to do with turnover, transfers, retraining & changes in staff job status. Therefore, it is understandable that the introduction of a proposed system requires special effort to educate, sell &train the staff on new ways.
The main objective here is to determine whether the system will work after it is developed and installed. A proper investigation was done in this regard and as a result, the following conclusions were derived:
There was sufficient support from the management and the personnel involved.
As it automates the Dental system completely, so the system becomes more efficient.
The persons involved in the current working of the system were met and discussions were held with them to evolve a system with which they had good support and participation.
The repetitive work of the currently manual system is eliminated.

Economical Feasibility:

Economic feasibility is the most frequently used method for evaluating the effectiveness of a proposed system. More commonly known as cost/benefits analysis, the procedure is to determine the benefits & savings that are expected from a candidate system and compare them with costs. If benefits outweigh costs, then the decision is made to design and implement the system.
The cost of acquiring the proposed system is not too high. The organization already has the suitable hardware with them. Even the software is already available with them. So it creates no extra burden on organization. System is developed in Visual Basic and in MS Access, which are both advances in feature.
