ppt on railway track fault detection robot

This paper describes methods for fault detection of railway vehicles and tracks. We examine fault detection of tracks using multi-resolution analysis into on-board measurement data as model-free approach. For fault detection of vehicles, we adapt interacting multiple-model (IMM) algorithm as model-based approach. We carried out simulation studies and field tests with actual vehicle. The results suggest that track and vehicle fault can be effectively detected by proposed method

RAILWAY TRACK FAULT DETECTING AND ALARMING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

The objective of this project is to develop an embedded project to monitor the track fault in real time and intimate the station if there is any fault occurs.

The main components of this project are microcontroller ATMEGA 8535, LCD display, buzzer, Zigbee wireless communication device, vibration sensor.

The track side node is present in ever few hundred meters away and it will continuously monitor the vibration level in the track, if the train pass the node the vibration sensor will give a output which will be ignored by the microcontroller and if any one tries to damage the track, then the vibration level will be extreme so the microcontroller will detect it and pass a warning signal to the station using the Zigbee network.

In the station node the Zigbee will receive the warning signal and display the node location from where the warning signal is come from and at the same time the buzzer will be turned on.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

1. Microcontroller ATMEGA 8535
2. Zigbee wireless communication device
3. Vibration sensor
4. LCD display
5. Buzzer

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

1. Embedded C
2. Codevision AVR

MICROCONTROLLER

A microcontroller is a complete microprocessor system built on a single IC. Microcontrollers were developed to meet a need for microprocessors to be put into low cost products.
Building a complete microprocessor system on a single chip substantially reduces the cost of building simple products, which use the microprocessor's power to implement their function, because the microprocessor is a natural way to implement many products.
This means the idea of using a microprocessor for low cost products comes up often. But the typical 8-bit microprocessor based system, such as one using a Z80 and 8085 is expensive. Both 8085 and Z80 system need some additional circuits to make a microprocessor system.
Each part carries costs of money. Even though a product design may require only very simple system, the parts needed to make this system as a low cost product.
