PROJECT REPORT
ON
FORD FIRE ENGINE
SUBMITTED BY
VAISAKHAN M.N.

ABSTRACT

The report consists of the description of various features of Pro/ENGINEER (Pro/E).

Pro/ENGINEER is a parametric feature based solid modeling software built on Granite engine by Parametric Technology Corporation (P.T.C). Pro/ENGINEER consists of about 40 modules classified as foundation and additional modules. This report covers the following modules-sketcher, part, assembly, sheet metal, surface, detailing and photo rendering.

The project report includes the different views (section views, exploded views etc) as well as the bill of materials
The project cannot fully complement the capabilities of Pro/ENGINEER in product design and development, but gives an insight about the same.

INTRODUCTION TO PRO/ENGINEER
INTRODUCTION TO Pro/E

Pro/ENGINEER is a robust, 3D feature based, parametric solid modeling system for part and assembly design, detailing documentation, manufacturing and analysis. The information created in Pro/ENGINEER focuses on a single database, and is created and primarily maintained in an assembly mode called Pro model.

Pro/ENGINEER providers a straight forward approach to building complex parts using consistent, systematic processes. Parts are a collection of individual features. Features in a part are analogous to operations performed by a machinist or model maker such as drilling a hole, removing material, and adding material. The operations done were remembered and are completely accessible, such that the operation can be redefined without having to do every thing again.

Pro/ENGINEER allows the user to create detailed solid and sheet metal components, build assemblies, design weldment, and produce fully documented production drawings and photo-realistic renderings. Built on the Pro/ENGINEER parametric solid-modeling kernel, it offers many industry-standard and direct data exchange translators for sharing and re-using data.

CAPABILITIES

Assemblies Define and create complex assemblies.
Associative Drawing Tables Produce detailed reports that automatically update changes to design tables.
Basic Surface Create and trim surfaces using basic tools (extrude, revolve, blend, sweep, etc). Perform surface operations such copy, merge, extend, and transform.
Data Exchange Empower highly collaborative CAD/CAM development.
Fully Detailed Documentation and 2D Drafting Create complete, production-ready drawings.
Library Easy access to standard parts, features, tools, mold bases, connectors, pipefittings, symbols, and human body dimensions.
Mechanical Design Assemble parts and assemblies using pre-defined connections (pin joints, ball joints, sliders, etc). The mechanism assembly can then be interactively dragged through its range of motion.
Model Check Evaluate parts, assemblies, and drawings to ensure that they adhere to a company s modeling standards and best practices.
Photo-realism Quickly creates accurate, photo-realistic images of Pro/ENGINEER parts and assemblies.
Plotting/Printing Pro/ENGINEER officially supports more than 150 plotters. Users of Microsoft Windows (NT/95/98/2000) operating system platforms can extend the printer and plotter supports a windows, or compatible, plotter driver.
Sheet metal Quickly create sheet metal parts using sheet metal specific features such as bends, punches, forms, etc. Provide the ability to unfold sheet metal parts into accurate flat patterns.

Pro/ENGINEER ASSEMBLIES

Pro/ENGINEER Foundation architecture provides extensive capabilities to define and create their assemblies. Specifically this assembly functionality allows designers to:

1. Create assemblies from existing or newly created components.
Users can assemble existing components together to create design assemblies or create new components in the context of the assembly. Merging, cutting, patterning, or mirroring existing parts can automate new component creation. Bulk items such as glue, tape, and paint may also be represented.
2. Perform quick drag-and drop packaging studies
Users can dynamically interact with components, moving then about the assembly as desired, or allowing Pro/ENGINEER to suggest possible placements, based on compatible geometry.
3. Explore design alternatives
Users can quickly design and capture alternative product configurations (parts and assemblies) using family tables.
Evaluate design alternatives by replacing assembly components automatically, using logic captured in a layout, an interchange group, or a family instance.
Take advantage of a range of flexibility provide within the assembly environment through tools such as redefine, delete, resume, reroute, reorder, and pattern assembly components and features the assembly.
4. Create assembly features

Pro/ENGINEER-Foundation captures assembly-dependent features such as holes, cuts and construction features, to reflect true design intent and manufacturing processes.
5. Group features and/or components

Users can group features and/or components together to perform similar actions such as patterning and copying maximizing productivity within the design process.
6. Capture assembly relations

Users can embed design intent into the assembly with equations relating design parameters and dimensions.

7. Retrieve existing Simplified Representations into a session
The user has the ability to show only the appropriate assembly information for the design task, improving system performance and visual clarity.
