OBJECTIVES
To design sensor system using Fiber Bragg Grating for
Structural Health Monitoring (SHM).
To analyze Reflection Spectra ,Transmission Spectra of
different types of Fiber Bragg Grating.
To implement FBG sensors in composite structures,
composite beams etc.
To sense different parameters (strain, temperature etc.)
within the structure.
To develop Digital Signal Processing techniques to
interrogate different FBG.

STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING

detection and characterization strategy in
engineering structures.
Automobiles, Civil infrastructures and
Aerospace structures.
Consists of a network of sensors
Optical fiber sensors offers advantages like
prone to EMI
light in weight
used in hazardous environment.

FIBER BRAGG GRATING PRINCIPLE
Longitudinal periodic variation of the index of refraction in the core
of an optical fiber

The grating is written in the core by exposing it to intense Optical
Interference Pattern.
The Gratings are permanent.
The light induced into the fiber follows Bragg s Law.
