A CVT is a substitute for a gearbox as you see in motorcycles where you need to shift the gears all the time. A CVT manages to adjust the gearing automatically according to your speed and power(torque, precisely).

Actually, there are no round gears in a CVT. There is a belt and two pulleys, in the grooves of which, the belt moves. The grooves are attached to a mechanical system that adjust the width of the groove as the speed changes so that the pulley can move deeper inside or move upwards which help in changing the effective size of that equivalent gear.

I guess this video will be very helpful for you to know how exactly a CVT works and adjusts the gearing.

Hi I am bhavik. i would like to get details about honda activa cvt ratio at different engine speed for my project work. i found this site good at that, i am studying mechanical engineering at government engineering college rajkot , gujarat India. i really need it so kindly help for the same.
