Recent Researches on Web Page Ranking
#1

[attachment=139]
The World Wide Web is an architectural framework for accessing linked documents spread out over millions of machines all over the Internet. Currently the World Wide Web has overshadowed all other internet applications. The popularity of WW is largely dependent on the web search engines. Search engines are the gateways to the huge information repository at the internet. Anyone can quickly search for helpful cleaning tips, music lyrics, recipes, pictures, celebrity websites and more with search engines. Generally an internet surfer does not bother to go through more than the first 10 to 20 pages shown by a search engine. So the ordering of web pages becomes very much important to produce an effective and efficient search result. The web page ranking algorithms are responsible to make this ordering of search results. Among the existing page ranking algorithms the most important algorithms are Kleinberg's HITS algorithm and Brin & Page's PageRank algorithm. Most of the other algorithms are directly or indirectly based on these two algorithms. The present seminar will give a comprehensive discussion on HITS and PageRank algorithm. The focus will be on recent researches on web page ranking algorithms to compensate the drawbacks of HITS and Pagerank algorithm. Some of the algorithms to be covered include CLEVER, Companion Algorithm, Weighted Page Rank, Confidence based page ranking etc
