NET-BACKUP
#1

Abstract
[attachment=214]
This project will set up a peer-to-peer (network) backup solution. Current backup
systems for personal and small-office computer users usually rely on secondary on-site storage of their data. Although these on-site backups provide data redundancy, they are vulnerable to localized catastrophe. More sophisticated off-site backups are possible but are usually expensive, difficult to manage, and still have a centralized form of redundancy. This project aims to make use of unused hard drive space available in the users computers to provide redundancy needed for reliable and efficient backup. The users share their hard disk space so that other users can use it to store their backup. The backup data will be stored in encrypted and compressed form.
