An online newspaper is the online version of a newspaper, either as a standalone publication or as the online version of a printed newspaper.
Going online created more opportunities for newspapers, such as competing with radio and television journalism in presenting breaking news in a more timely manner. The credibility and strong brand recognition of well-established newspapers, and the close relationships they have with advertisers, are also seen by many in the media industry as strengthening their chances of survival. Moving away from the printing process can also help lower costs.
Online newspapers are very similar to print newspapers and have the same legal limits, such as laws relating to defamation, privacy and copyright, also apply to online publications in most countries, such as in the United Kingdom. Also in the UK the Data Protection Act applies to online newspapers and news pages as well as PCC rules in the UK. But the distinction was not very clear to the public in the UK as to what a blog site or forum was and what an online newspaper was. In 2007, a ruling was issued to formally regulate UK online newspapers, audio news and news video websites covering the responsibilities expected of them and to clarify what is and is not a publication online.
Journalists are being taught to record video and to write in the succinct manner necessary for news pages on the Internet. Many are learning to implement blogs and the UK PCC decision should help this development of the Internet. Some newspapers have tried to integrate the Internet into all aspects of their operations, ie reporters write stories for print and online and classified ads appear in both media; Others operate websites that are more distinct from the printed newspaper. Mr. K. B. Ganapathy, Editor of Star Of Mysore which is a widely read English Daily is also the editor of 'Mysooru Mitra', a Kannada Morning Daily. He is highly qualified with a Degree in Arts (B.A) as well as in Law (B.L). He holds a Diploma in Journalism from Bombay.
In his distinguished career, he has practised as an advocate in the Karnataka High Court and Civil Courtsin Bangalorefrom 1961 to 1965.
He worked as a Journalist (Reporter as well as the Sub-Editor) in 'Free-Press Journal' and 'The Indian Express', Bombay till 1970.
He was then the Executive Director of an Advertising Firm in Poona from 1970 to 1977.
He is the Founder, Editor and Publisher of 'Star Of Mysore' and 'Mysooru Mithra' since 1978.
In his career he has aslo publiched novels like 'Adarshavadi' in Kannada(1992), a travelogue in english called 'America-An Area Of Light'(1993) and a novel on Kodagu in english called 'The cross & The Coorgs'(1994). He also has written a book called 'Abracadabra' which is a collection of selected columns(2003).
He has also contributed a number of articles to newspapers and magazines on socially relevant subjects and politics.
He has travelled widely and visited South-East Asia, Israel, Egypt, England, Europe and US.
He is the Vice-President Of Cauvery College for 6 years. He is also the Vice-President of Mysore District Journalists Association. He served as a member of Karnataka Patrika Akademi from 1993-1995. He was awarded the 'Karnataka patrika Akademi Award' in 2001.
His Interests include Art, Literature, Philosophy and Religion.
