Design and Development of Transient Network Analyzer

[attachment=17031]

Abstract

In this thesis an attempt has been made to simulate a scaled down long transmission line hardware module to study transients. a PSPICE simulated model has also been done. Simulation for an ideal surge and a practical surge for open circuit and surge impedance loading of the line has been done on the transient network analyzer and PSPICE model.

What is TNA

The TNA is designed specially for the real time simulation of transients caused by switching operations like line energisation , fault clearing, etc. It comprises of reduced models of AC systems components permitting simulation of any desired system. The TNA provides the greatest flexibility of modeling because of its low operating interfacing easily with electronic models and computer controls.

Design and Development of Transient Network Analyzer

Design of long transmission line network

Construction of Hardware model of long transmission line

Design of ideal and practical surge

Design of long transmission line network

The surge impedance is in the range of (250-400)km for long transmission line

Parameters of the long transmission line designed:

Formula for surge impedance : sqrt(L/C)
Available range of capacitor values : 4700 pf
Assumed value of surge impedance : 285 ohm
Inductance required for the above selected values : 0.38 mH

Length of the long transmission line selected for analysis :

Speed of the wave : 3 * 10^8 m/s
Frequency of the wave: 50 hz
For quarter wave analysis the length of the line is : 1500 km
