A Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (GE-PON)
The GE-PON includes an optical line terminal (OLT), a plurality of optical couplers, and a plurality of optical network units (ONUs). The OLT sets up an active page link and a standby page link in response to a registration request message received over an optical cable. Power over Ethernet is a mechanism for supplying power to network devices over the same cabling used to carry network traffic. PoE allows devices that require power, called Powered Devices (PDs),such as IP telephones, wireless LAN Access Points, and network cameras to receive power in addition to data, over existing infrastructure without needing to upgrade it.
