Image formation for Synthetic Aperture Radar using MATLAB


EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The main aim of this project will be to analyse the code in MATLAB to extract images from the data downloaded of a SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite (ERS-2). These satellites by sending a chirp to the earth and acquiring the reflection of the ground surface, obtain some data. This data must be treated correctly though to acquire the images of the surface we want to define. To obtain the final image ....etc

Synthetic Aperture Radar or SAR is an imaging radar system that sends a microwave pulse to the surface of the earth and register the reflections from the earth's surface . On -board processing and compression of data obtained from the SAR is vital for image formation .The development of enabling technologies for space-borne SAR instruments have been a major focus of research and development during the last few years . It is a form of radar in which multiple radar images are processed to yield higher-resolution images than would be possible by conventional means. The synthetic aperture radar system includes a multi-beam antenna having many reception beams in different direction from one another, the multi-beam antenna being adapted to receive radar echoes from objects. synthetic aperture radar system can detect a low-speed moving object without degradation of the cross-range resolution, enable the low-speed moving object to display without positional error, and does all these without reduction of the transmission antenna gain.
